That’s me in the middle.
Sculptor living on top of a hill with a succession of terriers (the latest of which is very friendly!) Was offered a place at Art school after O’ Levels but instead went to read Philosophy at university,
I never stopped painting in watercolours but I took up life drawing again at Bath Artists Studios in 2007 – hardly missed a week since. The transition to sculpture in 2014 was a logical step. Started out working in stone, ruined my joints through hard work; now modelling in wax and casting in bronze with the Talos foundry in Hampshire.
I’m currently working on a series of heads named in response to Hill Forts and Earthworks that I’ve known all my life, each one identified by a six figure grid reference – pure and simple; this after reading a collection of essays on Celtic cultural myth and identity and realising how much of what we think we see as mythical vision is the invention of subsequent generations
My sculptural influences are Laurence Edwards, Brian Taylor, Vittorio Iavazzo and Grzegorz Gwiazda
The ‘Zoom sessions’ represents over a year of drawing Ruth, one of my favourite models via zoom during ‘Lockdown’.
